Families are the Heart of Lionism!
Governor‘s Comments...
M U L E S:
MANAGEMENT UTILIZING LEADERSHIP EXCELLENCE’S
A mule named “Jim” was being driven by his owner. When every one got on the wagon, the driver yelled, “Giddyup, Jim, Giddyup Sam, Giddyup Molly, Giddyup Dinah.” As the wagon started to move one of the passengers said: “When Jim is the only one there, why did you call all those other names?” The owner replied “If Jim knew he was the only one pulling this wagon, he’d never budge an inch.” As lions we certainly know how Jim feels. No person, no committee, no zone or region chair, no District Governor can fulfill our mission to help those in need alone! It takes a “UNITED” effort by all the Lions in the District.
Like “Jim”, each of us needs to know that we are not pulling the wagon of our District alone. Each lion, each committee chair, each club, each zone & region chair will have to share a part of the load. No single lion or club can carry this load alone, but “uniting” together we can accomplish great things and move our district forward. We need each other, and we need to know that Lillian, Anne, Rommie, Marjorie, Lew, Evelyn, James, Chris, Danny, Larry and Stan are united with us. It takes teamwork!!
What would happen if our District Lions Members and Leaders were all pulling in different directions, its got to be a united effort, or as the bible says “equally yoked together”!
We have to understand what our mission is and have a clear view of the vision and strive towards working together to accomplish just that. Everyone is doing a “great” job and I just felt it was time that I expressed my thanks to each of you. God Bless and happy trails.
DG Jerry

Georgia Lions Lighthouse Foundation
The Georgia Lions Lighthouse Foundation is committed to serve Georgians with Visual and Hearing difficulties who have no place to turn for help. The lighthouse makes possible the type of services that individual clubs such as yours could not accomplish alone. It is through your support of the Lighthouse that makes this possible. To those clubs who regularly support the work of the Lighthouse, I would express our sincere thanks. To those clubs who have not supported us, I ask that you consider supporting us in the near future.
Each Club President is now receiving a report from the Lighthouse each month on the services the Lighthouse is providing your area of the state. Club Presidents are asked to share this information with the club. Also if you or one of your club members encounters someone who is in need of services, please no not hesitate to call the Lighthouse or me for assistance. That is what we are here for.
Lions Web Site Has a New Look
Lions Web site has a new look and added features - including a search function. Let other members know about the changes to the site. The address remains the same (www.lionsclubs.org), but you will need to update your bookmarked Lions Web pages, as they have changed with the site.
Trick-or-Treat for Sight this Month
Sight Night is a unique twist to trick-or treat in North America. Lions and Leos, this is a great opportunity to partner together and with other community groups to collect used eyeglasses. For more information and to download free collection materials visit http://www.sightnight.org/. Glasses collected on October 31 or trick-or-treat day in your community will be recycled and distributed on upcoming missions to developing countries, such as Mexico, Bolivia and Thailand.
Video Helps to Promote Lions Eyeglass Recycling and Distribution
Lions in Florida have increased their collection of used eyeglasses by showing the video, "New Glasses, New Life," to numerous Lions clubs and community organizations. This 10-minute video is appropriate for showing to Lions and non-Lions, including school children. It is told from the perspective of a recipient of recycled eyeglasses and highlights all aspects of the Lions Recycle For Sight program (collecting, processing and distributing eyeglasses). The video is available in English-only (VHS/NTSC format/US$19.95) from the Club Supplies Sales Department; request item number PR-28V. To order fax 630-571-1688 or Lions from U.S., Puerto Rico, U.S. Virgin Islands and Canada can call 800-710-7822. The video is also available free-of-charge to teachers and youth leaders (only) through the "Share Your Vision" kit. Encourage teachers and youth leaders in your community to visit http://www.vpw.com/ for more information or to order the "Share Your Vision" kit.

District 18-B Hall of Fame
Do you know how to nominate a Lion for the Hall of Fame? It’s not hard to do! Lions are elected to the District 18-B Hall of Fame by a secret vote of the active members of the District’s Past District Governor Association. The complete guidelines for the hall of Fame are posted on our district web site but the actual nomination process is fairly simple. All it takes is a letter of nomination signed by the president of a Lions Club. This nomination letter is to be sent to the president of the PDG association.
There are some specific information items that must be included in the nomination letter. Each letter must include the following:
1. Complete name as it is to appear on the plaque.
2. Mailing address (including phone number).
3. Date candidate became a Lion.
4. List of all club leadership positions held and dates these positions were held.
5. List of district or state leadership positions held and dates these positions were held.
6. List of awards received and dates.
7. List of his/her accomplishments in Lionism and the community.
8. A statement of support from the club.
9. A statement that the recipient or a member of the club will be present at the district cabinet meeting and convention to receive the award.
10. Must not be longer than two double-spaced typewritten pages.
11. Must include a check for $35, which will be used to defray the cost of the plaque.
Each club can submit a nomination for no more than two (2) living and two (2) deceased Lions. Nominations previously submitted but where the individual has not been selected may be updated and resubmitted so long as the resubmitted application is accompanied by the $35 check. Letters are to be submitted to PDG Joe Halter, P. O. Box 132, Rincon, GA 31326 or PDG Chuck Shurtleff, 1107 Kelly Drive, Hinesville, GA 31313.
Remember, all nomination letters must be signed by the club president, must include a check for $35 and must be received by December 5. Nominate that deserving Lion!

NEW CAMP PASSENGER VAN
The Jasper Lions Club has recently made it possible for your Camp for the Blind to have a new van. 18A Camp Vice-President Ron Crow was first told of the van by members of the Jasper Lions Club and with the help of Lions Darlene Lathem and Mark Miller, the purchase of the van has become a reality. Your Lions Camp will drive the van home from our November Joint Meeting in Forsyth. The van is a 1993 Ford Club Wagon in good shape with low miles and formerly owned by a Florida Church. We owe a huge thanks to the Jasper Lions Club and we are excited to make good use out of our new addition!
FALL FEST
This November 8-11, 2002 we will be holding a long weekend camp for our adult campers. Over 20 campers have already registered for the big weekend and it looks as if we will have lots of fun. We need some help though and we are looking to you Lions, to offer us some assistance. We need to provide meals for these campers and any staff volunteers we might have. The Blackshear Lions Club will grill burgers and hot dogs for everyone on Friday night and the Port City Lions Clubs has given us a $75 donation for any meal expenses that we might incur that weekend. If any of you out there can help us out in any way, we would greatly appreciate the support. In addition, Lions members will have the opportunity to visit and chat with some of the campers you all work so hard to provide a camp for. Please call us at 888-297-1775 or email us at [email protected] for more information. Thank You!
