District 18-E

District 18-E was formed in 1955 when Multiple District 18 was reorganized from four Districts to six Districts. This reorganization also created District 18-F. District 18-E was organized with 38 clubs and 1,786 members. Past District Governor H. E. Allen was appointed District Governor for the interim period, and Marion Roberts of LaGrange was the first elected District Governor of the newly formed District. A number of Past District Governors from this area of the State played a part in shaping and forming the History of this District. From International Directors: Thomas Halliburton, 1924-28; George S. Johnson, 1940-42, and Alcee F. Maxfield, 1959-61. Past District Governor Frank Hollberg, III served as President of the Georgia Lions Lighthouse Foundation. Three State Secretaries from District 18-E were: PID Alcee F. Maxfield: Lion Eugene Lindsay; and Lion Bob Bowlin. Other notable PDGs were Robert Young, Chairman of the Eye Bank Board; Freddie Horton and Jerry Payne, who served as Trustees of the Eye Bank.

*Frank Holladay (Anne)

1963-64

Past District Governor Frank Holiday first joined the Stonewall Lions Club in Enterprise, Mississippi in 1951, where he was a Charter Member. He transferred to the Carrollton Lions Club in 1952. He served as Club President 1959-60. He then served as Zone Chairman, Deputy District Governor and was District Governor of 18-E in 1963-64. He was the Guiding Lion in the organization of the Villa Rica and the Buchanan Lions clubs. Other service to the District includes President of the Past District Governors Association for several years. He has also served as Director of the Lighthouse and on many State Committees. PDG Holladay has received many awards and special recognitions, including the Melvin Jones Fellow Award.

C. Frank Hollberg, III (Sandra)

1965-66

Past District Governor Frank Hollberg joined the Senoia Lions Club in the late 50's or early 60's. He served as President of the club in 1962-63 and again in 1970-71; Club Secretary 1967-68 and 1985-86. District Service includes Zone Chairman 1963-64, Deputy District Governor 1964-65. His service to Lionism on the State level includes Chairman of the Council of Governors 1965-66, Vice President of the Georgia Lions Lighthouse 1968-72, President of the Lighthouse 1973-75, Trustee of the Atlanta Eye Bank 1974-81, President of the Peach Bowl 1979, 1980, and 1981. PDG Hollberg has received many special Awards.

C. Vernon Glisson (Frances)

1966-67

Past District Governor Vernon Glisson joined the Fort Valley Lions Club in October of 1962. He served his club in several capacities, including Director for 1962-63 and as President 1963-64. He served the District as Zone Chairman, 1964-65, Deputy District Governor, 1965-66, and as District Governor 1966-67. He also served as District Librarian and on the State Awards Committee.

William Ballek (Martha)

1969-70

Past District Governor William Ballek joined the Macon Vine Ingle Lions Club in June of 1956, where he was a Charter Member. He served as President of the Club in 1960-61, and 1987-88, until December of 1988. He transferred to the Macon Southside Lions Club. He served the District as Zone Chairman 1962-63, Deputy District Governor for four terms, 1963-64, 1965-65, 1967-68, and 1968-69. He served as District Governor in 1969-70, and was the recipient of the 100% District Governor Award.

*Robert F. Young (Flo Rene)

1973-74

Past District Governor Robert Young first joined the Winder Lions Club in 1947. He was one of three who organized the Winder Club, where he was a Charter Member. He transferred to the Carrollton Lions Club in the early fifties and later to the Heard County Lions Club where he served for 10 years before transferring back to the Carrollton Club. He served the Heard County Club as President in 1970-71. He served the District as Zone Chairman 1971-72; Deputy district Governor 1972-73; and District Governor 1973-74. Service to Lionism on the State level includes member of the Board of Trustees of the Eye Bank where he was Vice Chairman 1976-82, and Chairman 1982-. President of the Past District Governors Association 1978-79; State Awards Committee Chairman three times, and as a member of the Long Range Planning Committee. PDG Young's Awards and special recognitions include Lion of the Year for District 18-E, International President's Award, 100% District Governors Award, Melvin Jones Fellow Award, two Extension Awards and two Guiding Lion Awards.

Walter D. Wilson (Hilda)

1974-75

Past District Governor Walter Wilson joined the Macon Southside Lions Club in 1956. He served that club as President in 1967-68. He has served Lionism as District Governor, 1974-75, Council Chairman 1974-75, Council Advisor 1975-76, and has been on the Board of Trustees for the Georgia Lions Lighthouse for many years.

Richard Henry Mallory (Georgia)

1975-76

Past District Governor Richard Mallory joined the LaGrange Noon Lions Club in July of 1956. While serving as President of his club, he led the club to become the #1 Club in both 18-E and Multiple District 18. He is a Life Member of the LaGrange club and has signed up more than 500 eye donors. He served as Chairman of the LaGrange Club 50th Anniversary Celebration. Other service to Lionism includes Cabinet Secretary, District Governor, Vice President to the Lighthouse, Trustee of the Eye Bank, and created two new State Awards, the George Johnson Award and the Dr. R. S. O'Neal Award. As District Governor as many new clubs were organized in 18-E as in the other five Districts combined. He received the Hope Medal from International President William "Bill" Chandler.

Jerry M. Payne (Faye)

1981-82

Past District Governor Jerry Payne joined the Southside Lions Club in October 1969. PDG Payne's service to Lionism includes Zone Chairman, Deputy District Governor, District Governor, President of the 18-E Past District Governors Association, Trustee of the Georgia Lions Eye Bank, and President of the Georgia Past District Governors Association.

*Homer E. Wright (Gladys)

1982-83 and 1984-85

Past District Governor Homer Wright joined the Columbus East Lions club in March of 1973. Service to his Club includes all Vice Presidents, President in 1976-77 and 1987-88. He was also Secretary-Treasurer 1985-86, 1988-89. He served the District as Zone Chairman 1975-76, Deputy District Governor 1976-77, 1978-79 and 1980-81, and as District Governor 1982-83 and again in 1984-85. He was Council Chairman 1982-83, Council Advisor 1983-84, MD 18 LCIF Chairman 1977-78 and 1980-81. Other Positions include Vice President of the Georgia Lions Lighthouse for three terms, Trustee of the Lighthouse 1989-90, Vice President of the Camp for the Blind for two terms, Director of the Camp 1977-78, and Trustee of the Camp 1987-91. PDG Homer's Awards and special recognitions include the International President's Certificate of Appreciation, 1982-83, 1984-85, and 1986-87; the 100% Club President's Award 1976-77, 1987-88, and the Melvin Jones Fellow Award.

*Robert W. King (Anna)

1986-87 and 1991-92

Past District Governor Robert King joined the Bonanza Lions club in March of 1970. He served his club in every position and then served the District as Zone Chairman for three terms and Deputy District Governor for two terms before becoming District Governor in 1986-87, and serving again in that capacity in 1991-92. He has also served as Chairman of several Committees, and served as Secretary-Treasurer of the Georgia Past District Governors Association..

*Fao Nathaniel Akers (Patricia)

1988-89

Past District Governor Fao Akers first joined the Eatonton, New Jersey Lions Club in August of 1948. He later moved to Georgia and joined the Villa Rica Lions club. He served in all offices in the local club, including four years as Secretary. His district service includes Zone Chairman two years, Region Chairman to years and District Governor. Other service includes Cabinet Advisor 1989-90, and Vice President of the Eye Bank 1990-91.

*Donald Norris (Sue)

1989-90

Past District Governor Donald Norris joined the Southside Lions Club in 1969. He served his club as President for two terms. Service to the District includes Zone Chairman 1983-84; Deputy District Governor 1986-87 and District Governor 1989-90. Awards and special recognition's received by PDG Norris includes 100% Club President, 100% Club Treasurer, 100% Zone Chairman, 100% Deputy District Governor and 100% District Governor.

Charles E. McDaniels (Judith Ann)

1990-91

Past District Governor Charles McDaniels joined the Bonanza Lions Club in April of 1982. He served his club as Director 1982-84; First Vice President 1984-85; and as 100% President 1985-86. Service to the District includes Cabinet Secretary-Treasurer 1986-87; 100% Deputy District Governor 1987-88; 100% Region Chairman; 100% Lt. Governor 1989-90 and 100% District Governor 1990-91. He served as Director and Trustee of the Georgia Lions Lighthouse 1991-92 and as Director and Trustee of the Georgia Lions Camp for the Blind 1991-92. PDG McDaniels served as Council Chairman 1992-93. Awards include Extension Award 1986; Guiding Lions Award 1987; Second International Extension Award 1989; 100% District Governor's Award 1991 and Melvin Jones Fellow Award 1992.

Louie Holmes (Melba Jean)

1992-93

Past District Governor Louie Holmes joined the Macon Southside Lions Club on October 26, 1976. He served his club as 100% President (1988-89), was First Vice President, Second Vice President and Third Vice President. Served on the Board of Directors and was Chairman of most major club projects. PDG Louie was Bulletin Editor. His Bulletin was judged No. 1 in the state in two different years. At the District level he served as Zone Chairman, Lt. Governor (91-92) and was District Governor (92-93). PDG Louie is the recipient of the following awards: He was 100% Zone Chairman, Lion of the Year, received the 100% President's Award, 100% International Award, International President's Certificate of Appreciation. PDG Louie is a member of Masonic Order, Blue Lodge; member of Scottish Rite and Shrine and member of the Macon Moose Lodge.

*Joseph E. Molony (Matrice)

1993-94

Past District Governor Joe Molony joined the Warner Robins Lions Club in May 1982 and later transferred to the Warner Robins Noon Lions Club. He served his club as President (2003) and has held every club office. At the District level he served as District Governor, Vice District Governor, Region Chairman, Zone Chairman and Public Relations Committee Chairman. PDG Joe was a retired Newspaper Reporter and he knew the value of the printed word. On the State level, Lion Joe served as State Newspaper Editor for many years and was in the middle of all State activities with a note pad and his camera.

PDG Joe is the recipient of many Awards and recognitions including: International President's Award; Lions International Leadership Award; 2 Certificates of Appreciation; Lion of the Year Award, Melvin Jones Fellowship; Tom Bingham Award. Also he is a member of the 10 Million Dollar Club, Century Key Award and recipient of numerous other Club and District Appreciation Awards. PDG Joe has had 100% attendance at club, Zone, Region meetings since becoming a Lion in 1982. He won the Merit Award from the Air Force Association (second highest award) and has numerous service awards as a sports columnist for the Warner Robins Daily Sun. Lion Joe was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic church, Life members of the Air Force Association, Life Member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion and AARP.

John Cecil Daniels

1994-95

Past District Governor Cecil Daniels joined the Forsyth Lions Club in 1978. He served his club as Treasurer, Secretary, Vice President and President. PDG Cecil was Zone Chairman, member of the State Awards Committee, Vice District Governor and District Governor. He also served as Lions Camp for the Blind Vice President. At the State level he served on the State Deaf Awards Committee and State Headquarters Committee. He was the recipient of the following awards: International President's Certificate of Appreciation, International President's medal. Melvin Jones Fellow (w/2 diamonds), 100% District Governor, 100% Secretary and 100% President Award.

Community service includes much activity to support youth projects -4H Clubs, Scouts and other youth groups. He promoted the spread of, and recognition of our State Flower- the Cherokee Rose. Is active in all club projects- White Cane, Send-A-Kid-to-Camp and Health Clinics.

G. Elden Elzworth

1996-97

Past District Governor Elden Elzworth was initiated into Lionism as a member of the Columbus Lions Club. He served his club as Director, Vice President and Chairman of numerous committees. At the District level Lion Elden served as District Governor, Vice District Governor, Region Chair., Zone Chair., LCIF Chair., and Convention Chairman. At the State level PDG Elden was LCIF Chairman, Vice President of the Georgia Lions Lighthouse Foundation and was a Trustee of the Lighthouse. In 2006 PDG Eldon was General Chairman of the 85th Lions of Georgia State Convention in Columbus.  Lion Eldon is a Progressive Melvin Jones Fellow and has received an International President's Certificate of Appreciation.

Loretta N. Snowden

1998-99

Past District Governor Loretta Snowden joined the Pike County Lions Club in June of 1991. She served her club as Tailtwister for two years, Sight Conservation Chair., and 100% Club President. At the District level Lion Snowden was Youth Exchange Chair., World Service Day Chair, LCIF Chair., Vice President of the Lions Camp for the Blind and has served as 100% Zone Chair., Vice District Governor and District Governor. She is the recipient of the Order of the Golden Chain Award, 3 International President's Appreciation Award, District 18-E Governor's Award, Extension Award (2 new clubs) and is a Melvin Jones Fellow. PDG Loretta has participated in Lions International Youth Exchange program and has hosted 14 students from many different countries. Her community volunteer activity includes Board member and Chair. of the Pike County Appeals Planning, past board member of Milby Medical, Past President American Heart Association and also active in Wildlife Rehabilitation.

Tom Jackson (Judy)

2000-01

Past District Governor Tom Jackson joined the Carrolton Noon Lions Club in 1975. At the club level he served as Tailtwister, Lion Tamer, 2nd Vice President, 1st Vice President and President (2 terms). At the District level he was Group Coordinator for Campaign Sightfirst, Vice District Governor and District Governor. Lion Tom served as LCIF Chairman at the State level. PDG Tom is a Progressive Melvin Jones Fellow and was recognized as Co-Pilot of the Year by the Pilot Club of Carrolton (twice named). Community service includes: Past President of the Downtown Merchants Assoc., Board member of the Carroll County Chamber of Commerce, Board member of the Carroll County Community Theater, Board member of the Carroll County "Heart Unit", is President of the Carroll County Cultural Arts Alliance. He is a member of the Tabernacle Baptist Church and a past Sunday School Teacher.

David Forrest (Dimple)

2002-03

Past District Governor David Forrest first became a Lion when he joined the Gibson Ga. Lions Club. He is presently a member of the Thomaston Lions Club. At the club level he was Club Secretary, a Director and had numerous committee assignments. At the District level he was Zone Chairman, Region Chairman, Vice District Governor and District Governor. On the State level, PDG David was Council Representative to the Georgia Lions Lighthouse Foundation and is currently State Representative for Southeastern Guide Dogs for the Blind. Lion David is the recipient of the following awards: Club Lion of the Year, International President's Certificate of Appreciation and International President's Leadership Award. PDG David has started two Leo Clubs. He also coordinated the establishment of a Veterans Memorial Fund for Thomaston and Yatesville.

John Singletary

2003-04

Lion John Singletary first entered Lionism as a member of the Edison, Georgia Lions Club. Presently, Lion John is a member of the Thomaston, Georgia Lions Club and has had 100% attendance since 1998. He has held all positions at the club level except Secretary, Treasurer and Tail Twister. At the District level Lion John was Zone Chairman, Region Chairman, Vice District Governor, and District Governor. He has also held the title of MERL Chair, and was Vice President of the Georgia Lions Camp for the Blind. Lion John holds the following awards: Golden Chain (3 years), 100% Zone Chairman, 100% Region Chairman and 100% Vice District Governor. Lion Singletary has attended three International Lions Conventions, two USA/Canada Forums and every State Convention since 1998.

Thomas H. Morton

2004-05

Lion Thomas (Tom) Morton first joined Lionism when he became a member of the Pike County Lions Club. At the club level he was President, Vice President, Director, Membership Chairman and Chaplain. At the District level Lion Tom was District Governor of District 18-E, Vice District Governor and MERL Chair. At the State level he served on the Council of Governors and was liaison for the Camp for the Blind. Past District Governor Tom is the recipient of the Lion of the Year Award (2004-2005), Golden Chain Award (brought in 14 new members), Volunteer of the Year Award, Certificate of Appreciation. Lion Tom is a senior partner in a major law firm in Zebulon, Georgia. He served three times as Mayor of the City of Downey, CA. He is City Attorney for Zebulon and Meansville and County Attorney for both Pike County and Meriwether County. Tom is a Mason and has received his 50th year recognition. He and his wife are members of the Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Pike County where he has served as Deacon.
